“You deserve it… You deserve it,” was the only tune Pat McAfee wanted to sing in the whole episode on The Pat McAfee Show, something that his co-hosts didn’t seem to mind at all. Rather, cheering for Kirby Smart for bagging the biggest contract extension in the sweetest voice possible was something all the co-hosts and McAfee did during the initial minutes of the episode.

“Kirby Smart just got a big old bag. $130 million. $13 million a year. Their team is a wagon. Getting to know this Georgia football program over the last few years where they got blood ball on Tuesdays. It is an old school field down there in Athens. And I love that Kirby’s getting rewarded and I think this is good for the future college football as a whole,” McAfee said, expressing his genuine happiness for Kirby Smart getting locked in for the next 10 years at Georgia. 

The 10-year, $130 million deal that was approved by university officials on Thursday made the biggest waves in the CFB world.  The deal touted Smart as the only CFB head coach to receive a sum as lucrative as $13 million per annum.

This would not only mean that he would be the highest-paid coach until someone else bags an even bigger contract, but it also means that his signature old-school, aggressive style, and words would still be coursing through the Bulldogs’ veins for the next 10 years.

What surprised the fans even more was that it was Pat McAfee who was lauding the Bulldogs for their success. The Alabama boy could hardly stand the possibility of Kirby Smart and Co. winning a game against Alabama Crimson Tide during their 2023 clash. For that, McAfee has a response ready in his defense.

Why Pat McAfee chose Alabama over Kirby Smart

Pat McAfee and Georgia fans don’t sit too well together. For the past season, the Bulldogs fans have been relentlessly throwing jibes at Pat McAfee, something that he was overdue to address. Alabama vs. Georgia gave him the chance to do so.

“There might have been a moment on game day that morning in Atlanta where I potentially called the Dogs and you know did a little face, like ‘Hey, you remember all the shi*t your entire fan base has talked about me all year long? Well, today you know the football gods are gonna make you pay the piper when Alabama gets to it.’ Now Alabama goes on to win. So the Georgia Bulldogs fans can’t hold that against me. I was just accurately predicting the outcome,” McAfee says in his defense.
