New Delhi: The relentless Israeli air and ground strikes during the Israel-Hamas war have resulted in massive destruction in Gaza. The people who are now slowly beginning to return to their homes are facing a severe shortage of basic necessities. The devastation caused by Israeli attacks has resulted in the destruction of nearly 1,000 mosques in Gaza. In response to this crisis, Indonesia, the world’s largest Islamic country, has announced plans to build 100 mosques in the Palestinian-controlled Gaza Strip.
Middle East Monitor reported that the Indonesian Mosque Council has announced plans to build 100 mosques in the Gaza Strip. Former Vice President of Indonesia, Muhammad Jusuf Kalla has said that the plan to build 100 mosques have been formulated considering the urgent needs of the people in Gaza. The report mentioned that Indonesia has taken this step as the holy month of Ramadan approaches. The sacred month of Ramadan is set to begin on February 28 or March 1 and will continue until March 29.
Notably, a ceasefire was enforced in the Gaza Strip on January 19. The first phase of the ceasefire will last for 42 days, during which negotiations for the second and third phases will begin under the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
Meanwhile, following the ceasefire, Hamas will release three Israeli and five Thai hostages on Thursday as part of the third round of hostage-prisoner exchange, while Israel will free 110 Palestinian prisoners. Under the ceasefire agreement, the Israelis to be released include 20-year-old female soldier Agam Berger, a 29-year-old woman named Arbel Yehud, and an 80-year-old man, Gadi Moses. The identities of the Thai citizens set to be released on Thursday have not yet been confirmed.
