Family Guy - 7 Things You Didn't Know About The Animated Series
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors

If you thought the Fox Network was thinking of cutting down on its animated series, think again. Fox has ordered four more seasons each of "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," and "Bob's Burgers." Likewise, "American Dad!" is returning to the network for the 2025-26 season, also with a four-season order.

"This new deal celebrates the eternal popularity of these iconic comedies, as well as the enduring, prolific relationship we continue to enjoy with our friends at 20th Television Animation and the brilliant creators — that goes double for Seth [MacFarlane] this time around — and incredible voices behind these contemporary classics," said Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn.

These renewals mean that all four series will last at least through the 2028-29 season. This will take "Bob's Burgers" through its 19th season, "American Dad!" through its 23rd, and "Family Guy" through its 27th. "The Simpsons," in the meantime, will crack is 40th season and be somewhere in the neighborhood of 900 episodes.

According to Deadline, the order for all 16 seasons is for 15 episodes per. This is fewer than the usual 22 episodes, but the streaming age has decreased season lengths across the board, to the point where anything over 10 episodes seems like a gift.

"The longevity of this agreement reaffirms our commitment to the successful partnership we've built with the incredible team at Disney," said Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade. "This collaboration has and will continue to generate meaningful long-term value and strategically build audiences from Fox to Hulu to fans worldwide."

Marci Proietto, head of 20th Television Animation said, "This historic four-season order from our longtime partners at FOX is truly monumental for these iconic animated series. We are so proud that these legendary shows will continue for hundreds of more episodes, allowing new and longstanding fans to watch, rewatch, and experience more of 'The Simpsons,' 'Family Guy,' 'American Dad' and 'Bob's Burgers' for years to come."

THR speculates that Fox's streaming deal with Hulu played a large role in the four shows getting their multi-season renewals. While "The Simpsons" streams only on Disney+, "American Dad!," "Family Guy," and "Bob's Burgers" all stream on Hulu; and the latter two show up in Nielsen's weekly top 10 streaming charts on a regular basis.
